I reckon it woulda been close to 2 or 3 degrees when we walked to the Haggis office, not far from our hostel, man it was cold. Our driver rocked up in a kilt and a hoodies and the thickest scottish accent we'd ever heard. He was a top bloke too, about Clints age and talked a lot of bollocks.
We got matching MacPherson Clan Scarves!! Nice :)
Off we went, through the fog and out of edinburgh into the country side. We couldnt see a thing for a few hours until the sun came up and the heavy fog dissapeared but hey who cares?? We're in Scotland!!
So Scotland is famous for a few different things, the Loch Ness Monster, the Highlands (The Isle of Skye) it's History and amazing Scenery, Haggis, Men who wear skirts *cough* I mean kilts.. castles, brutal to the death battles between neighbouring clans, or even the english, and of course who could forget, kaliedoscopes!
We saw lots of hills, trees, bushes and grass, but here they were all covered in ice and it was great! We found our first frozen lake (at our hostel) so while we were waiting for people to board the bus we threw rocks at it for a laugh!! Clint also skated on frozen ice down the hostel driveway.
Our highlight of the three days was the Isle of Skye. Where the scenery is unbelievable! We got to sit ontop of a mountain and watch the sun set.
We headed back to Edinburgh, via Glencoe which is a valley made by glaciers during the ice age. We found some frozen rivers and broke the top of it off with a rock or our feet. We could pick up the pieces of ice which looked like glass and then smashed it on the ground!! Sounds like we were breaking a plate or a window!! Fun times!!
There's SO much history in Scotland, and we discovered the Scots are very proud of who they are and where they come from! On our travels we picked up some new slang words which we can't wait to bring home and use! We also learned the stories behind "being beaten by the ugly stick", "getting pummelled" and everyones favourite (excuse the language) "They got Sh*t faced". Nice.
After many wee walks, wee stories and wee jokes we've decided we really like Scotland. It is a magical place! Full of amusing myths, ledgends, historical characters and natural beauty. One of Kylies highlights was meeting and feeding Hamish the Highland cow, he was sloberring-ly adorable!!
Nice hair dudes!!!
We've decided we'd like to live in the Highlands in Scotland.. we've already picked out the house!!
We have the next few days free in Edinburgh to do what we want, and then we fly to Dublin on wed arvo to do a tour of the south of Ireland.
How cool are the "heilan' Coo's"

Kylie and Clint,
ReplyDeleteMarvelous blog! I stumbled upon your blog via Haggis' facebook group. My girlfriend and I plan to do the Isle of Skye tour in July. We have a few questions about it, and Scotland, if you've any time in the next few months. Hopefully your time is scant as you're busy traveling! I'm on facebook, Chris Ellwood from Ohio, USA or cellwood3@gmail.com if you've ever anytime.
Hope you're having a blast!
